Welcome to Hertfordshire's leading provider of complementary approaches to health. |
Our Mission |
The Letchworth Festival - July 2009 |
| What we do The Letchworth Centre was established in March 1984 and has developed into a highly respected medical and education centre which draws enquiries from as far away as Australia and Japan. With over 25,000 registered patients, which are increasingly referred by GPs, a year-round educational programme for the general public teaching complementary methods of managing stress, the Centre is an outstanding example of successful work at the interface of orthodox and complementary medicine. The Centre is today concerned with the broad issues of improving health, easing suffering and enhancing the quality of life. Alongside the clinic we run a wide variety of classes teaching self-help preventative approaches such as Alexander Technique, meditation, t'ai chi, yoga and Pilates. Over 1,000 students a week attend classes. In both the clinic and the classes we choose qualified, talented people to help us create a warm, friendly environment and we take the experience of our clients and students seriously. |
| Other Activities The 'Growing People' Horticultural Therapy Programme has been running at the Centre since October 2006. It is focussed on people with mental health problems and based on the rationale that gardening combines physical exercise and is mentally calming. We have designed and delivered a national programme of university-accredited courses for health professionals run at Thames Valley University and for Marie Curie Cancer Care which was hailed by the Nursing Times as a ‘milestone in the establishment of these (complementary) therapies within the NHS'. |
| Where we are The Letchworth Centre for Healthy Living is based at Rosehill Hospital, a wonderful conservation area in the middle of eight acres of tranquil greenbelt. The site was an NHS cottage hospital and has been tastefully refurbished to house the clinic, accommodate the classes and provide conference and meeting rooms for private events. |
| Awards Complementary Health Centre of the Year 2002, CAM Magazine Shortlisted for the Prince of Wales' Foundation for Integrated Health Best Integrated Practice Award 2005. |
